Entrance

Sun Hing Restaurant (“Sun Hing”) has stood in the local neighbourhood of Kennedy Town for more than 30 years. Open at 3am every day, Sun Hing is the place where you will find the early risers who enjoy to sip a cup of hot tea and enjoy their newspaper in the morning. If you are lucky enough, you may even bump into the famous Cantonese singer, Eason Chan, who is a regular at Sun Hing!

Sun Hing is a self-service restaurant. As you step into the restaurant, just gesture the number of guests to the server and he will point you to the available desk. Then, they will ask for your preference of tea (usually either Chinese-styled red tea or green tea) and give you a kettle of it. Feel free to ask the waiter to refill the tea for you during your meal. After settling down, you can go to the counter and pick any hot dishes as you like. If you cannot find the dish you want, you can also ask the waiter directly and see if the kitchen can prepare that for you.

For the first-comers who are uncertain what to order, no worries! Here are some must-try items at Sun Hing:

1. Deep fried milk

Their deep fried milk is probably the best in town. Originated from Shunde, Guangdong province, deep fried milk is a traditional Cantonese snack. It has a crispy golden coat while the inner milk pudding filling is smooth and silky. It sold out quickly every day so make sure you arrive at the restaurant before lunch hour (1230pm) to secure one!

2. Salted egg custard bun

Salted egg custard buns is a sweet bun filled with egg custard and salted egg yolk. As you break the bun into half, the molten egg custard would flow out of the bun like hot lava from the volcano. One can never forget the lava-ish texture!

3. Chicken feet

This amazing dish doesn’t have much meat to it, but it is packed with complex flavor, though sounds weird for some of your guys !

You only need to check out after finishing all your meals. Just wave at the waiter and he will count the number of plates and lots you. Now you can have an authentic taste of the morning routine of those early birds in Hong Kong.
