Hi everyone, I’m Carmen and I am one of the tour guides at Hong Kong Free Tours.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, I am proud to call myself a true local Hong Konger. When you hear me talk though, you will also get a hint of various accents from the other places I’ve lived in over the years: Australia and the USA (New York). When I returned to Hong Kong a few years ago, it was time for me to rediscover my familiar-yet-changed hometown and see things from a different perspective.
I have a real passion for telling and sharing the Hong Kong story, which is why I do this on my day off from my full-time office job! When I was young, I wanted to become a diplomat but, as we will explain on the tour, Hong Kong does not control its foreign relation matters and has no embassy… so I find it extremely meaningful to be able to be an ambassador of Hong Kong in this alternate way, especially in this defining era.
Interests: Craft beer, podcasts, TV, museums, hiking
Occupation: All I can tell you is that I work in one of the most iconic buildings in Hong Kong
Language: English, Cantonese, Mandarin, very very rusty German
Where is your favorite spot in Hong Kong and why? Kwai Chung Plaza (Kwai Fong MTR station) – There is something about this packed shopping mall filled with tiny boutiques, snack stalls and random shops that creates a unique buzz
Where have you traveled to? Without listing out all the countries I’ve travelled to, my top 5 places so far are: Cuba, Israel, Sri Lanka, Italy, Thailand. And I would like to explore Central Asia region next year!

Carmen is an amazing walking tour guide. She is very knowledgeable and candid, and did an amazing job telling us about what is currently happening in Hong Kong as well as the.history and culture about Hong Kong. When we travel to a new city, my family and I always take a walking city tour, and Carmen is the best guide we have ever had.

Thank you SO much for an AMAZING tour. It was one of the most interesting and relevant and rich of history and personal experience I have EVER been on! Carmen even followed up with additional educational resources and a group selfie. She had an engaging, warm style, all while being super informed.
