Hi, My name is Terry. I’m a local Hong Konger born and raised here in Hong Kong. I’m a 2nd generation Hong Konger; both of my parents were both born in Hong Kong. My grandparents came to Hong Kong from China about 100 years ago and Hong Kong is a place I call home now.
I have also lived in Canada for 8 years and no, I don’t mind the cold weather! I’m now working here in the Hong Kong Free Tours as a part-time tour guide while running a small business of my own at the same time.
I’ve always enjoyed meeting new friends and learning other cultures so what better way than working as a tour guide? I love to share my perspective as a local to visitors from all over the world and at the same time learn a thing or two from them about their countries.
Hong Kong is the only place on earth where sovereignty was handed over from one country to another country without war. As a Hong Konger, I have experienced the handover first hand and at the beginning of the handover, my friends overseas had always asked me “So, anything changed?” and my replies had always been “No, nothing has changed!” with absolute certainty.
Now some 20 years have passed since the handover, my answer is definitely different now and how is it different? Well, how much time do you have…?

Absolutely fascinating, content rich and informative. Terry is wonderfully energetic and passionate. The tour described the amazingly eclectic city in so many ways. Underpinning all is the hugely prevalent inequity in housing and affordability. As well the unregulated construction and ‘subdivision’. The increasing gentrification of all cities is so blatant in the northern section of Sham Shui Po. Even though we are staying in just the next neighbourhood to Mong Kok we hadn’t seen anything in the way Terry’s tour really illuminated. We ended up in the delicious food hall too, at Sham Shui Po, a market and meal to remember. Thanks Terry!!
"A MUST FOR EVERY VISITOR"Reviewed 18 December 2019
I went on this tour along with the Kowloon Free Walking Tour on the same day, back to back. I thoroughly enjoyed both. This tour focuses on the relationship between China and Hong Kong, their history, and the way it is today. This tour really is completely uncensored. Terry, our tour guide, answered all of our questions honestly and is incredibly knowledgeable. I enjoyed every stop and appreciate having learned so much about HK from a Hong Konger. This experience really defined my first trip to HK. My trip lasted only 3 days and I’m really glad that one of those days I spent on these tours.
